A travel signature for active, enrolled students is valid for 12 months. You only need to request a new signature if

the signature is or will be older than 12 months at the time you plan to return to the U.S. AND/OR
the information on the I-20 is outdated, for example you have declared a major that needs to be on the I-20.

Documents required for re-entry to the United States

Passport: valid for at least 6 months into the future
F-1 visa: unexpired on the day of travel. If your visa has expired or will expire while you are outside of the U.S., you should plan to obtain a new one.
I-20: page 2 needs to be signed for travel and dated within the past 12 months

Documents that are recommended that may be requested at the port-of-entry

Documentation of financial support - Financial aid award letter and bank statements, similar to what you submitted during your initial I-20 request and visa interview.
Proof of course registration for current or upcoming semester - Available from Banner Self-Service
Unofficial transcript - Available from Banner Self-Service

These documents should be printed and in hand. You will most likely not be able to consult an electronic device to verify this information.

Required

Upon your return to the U.S., ISE recommends that you retrieve and print your I-94. Verify the information is correct, your status is F-1 and your admit until date is D/S. Keep this for your records. It is not needed by ISE unless specifically requested.
